Pentecost 2019 – Veni Creator Spiritus
Pentecost is the feast day at the end of the Easter Season when the church commemorates the Holy Ghost descended on the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Veni Creator Spiritus is a beautiful traditional hymn the dates back to about the 9th Century. Traditionally it can be sung as a Novena nine days before Pentecost. A plenary indulgence is also granted if it is recited on the feast of Pentecost. Below is a video of the Hymn being chanted. Gregorian chant forms an important part of the church’s liturgy. Veni, Creator Spiritus,
mentes tuorum visita,
imple superna gratia
quae tu creasti pectora.
Qui diceris Paraclitus,
altissimi donum Dei,
fons vivus, ignis, caritas,
et spiritalis unctio.
Tu, septiformis munere,
digitus paternae dexterae,
Tu rite promissum Patris,
sermone ditans guttura.

Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest,
and in our souls take up Thy rest;
