The Feast of Corpus Christi – Eucharistic Retreat

The feast of Corpus Christi is on the 3rd of June 2021. On this great feast day the Church calls to our attention the great mystery of the Blessed Sacrament. This feast day has great significance this year in South Africa as we celebrate the year of the Eucharist. This great mystery takes place at every Mass. Many are currently praying a Novena in preparation for Corpus Christi, celebrated on Sunday the 6th of June in South Africa this year. The Eucharist is the whole Christ, as the Roman Catechism puts it:

“Hence our predecessors in the faith, the Fathers of the General Councils of Lateran and of Florence, confirmed by solemn decrees the truth of this dogma. In the Council of Trent it was still more fully defined in these words: If any one shall say that in the most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist the substance of the bread and wine remains, together with the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, let hint be anathema.” – The Roman Catechism

The Feast of Corpus Christi – a time for reflection

The feast of Corpus Christi day and the whole year is a time for us to deepen our Faith in and love for the Blessed Sacrament, which is Our Lord truly present with us. One way to do this is to make a retreat, where we can learn about and reflect on this great mystery. Modern technology has allowed us to share retreats from around the world. The following retreat was given by Fr Armand de Malleray, FSSP, in 2019 to Clergy. There is something we can all learn from this retreat.
