How to Celebrate the Feast of the Holy Face without a Mass
Our Blessed Lord asks that the feast of the Holy Face be commemorated on Shrove Tuesday. He asked that a Novena be prayed prior to the feast, which we have been praying.
“See how I suffer. Nevertheless, I am understood by so few. What ingratitude on the part of those who say they love me. I have given My Heart as a sensible object of My great love for man and I give My Face as a sensible object of My Sorrow for the sins of man. I desire that it be honoured by a special feast on Tuesday in Quinquagesima (Shrove Tuesday – the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday). The feast will be preceded by novena in which the faithful make reparation with Me uniting themselves with my sorrow.”
Our Lord to Mother Pierina 1938
The Feast and Mass were approved for the Universal Church by Pope Pius XII. The Mass was sadly not transferred to the new Missal of Paul VI, that is the 1969 Missal. Therefore the reality for many Catholics is that they are not able to honour this feast by attending Holy Mass in Honour of the Holy Face. There are many ways to honour this feat without being able to attend Holy Mass. Some suggestions below:
- Make a Holy Hour of reparation to console Our Lord for the numerous blasphemies he is constantly being subjected to
- Pray the Chaplet of the Holy Face
- Pray the Litany of the Holy Face
- Read and meditate on the prayers for the Mass. English and Latin here. The Latin prayers are available here.
- Pray the Holy Rosary with meditations specific to the Holy Face of Jesus
- Pray the Stations of the Cross in Honour of the Holy Face of Jesus
We wish everyone a most Blessed Feast of the Holy Face! Please pray for us
